“The Meaning of Work: Meaning in the Work Process and the Workplace” Colloquium Held
As part of the IHU Management Colloquium series, current discussions on the concept of meaning in the work process and workplace, along with its terminological boundaries, were addressed.

Organized by the School of Business at our University, the colloquium titled “Meaning of Work, in Work, and at Work” was held on Tuesday, May 6 in room YBF-B.03. The speaker of the event, which was part of the IHU Management Colloquium series, was our PhD Candidate Oxana Komaritsa.

In her presentation, Komaritsa focused on the concept of meaning in the workplace, particularly addressing the ambiguities and conceptual framework of terms associated with this concept in an institutional context. She emphasized that the semantic differences in the terminology used in work processes are often overlooked, which can lead to confusion in research at both theoretical and practical levels.

According to Komaritsa, the concept of “meaning,” which is repeatedly addressed in the workplace context, often becomes difficult to define and draws researchers into a challenging process due to its multilayered nature.

The colloquium highlighted that this issue is not only a matter of individual inquiry but also a societal one. The event concluded with an emphasis on the importance of sensitivity in the use of concepts and the necessity of clearly defined terminological boundaries.
